News Report 31st March 2008
A
Bro Dysynni A.C. athlete, namely Malcolm Taylor of Criccieth, added to the
clubs long list of past and present Welsh champions as he claimed victory
recently in the 'Male Over-65' age category at the Welsh 10 Mile Road Running
Championships which were held in Lampeter at their 'Teifi 10' event. In a
competitive age category, the Dwyfor-based athlete came home in a time of 1hr
23.45mins, which was good enough to earn a Welsh Championship gold over a
challenging course.
Doubling
the above distance recently were two local athletes who headed to Rhayadar
to compete in the 'Rhayadar Round the Lakes 20 mile' event. In a race which
attracted 322 entries, there was a terrific 20th placed finish for Dewi Roberts
of Blaenau Ffestiniog in a time of 2hrs 19.03mins whilst Meirionnydd Running
Club athlete, Tony Hodgson of Porthmadog, followed in a pleasing time of 2hrs
45.34mins. Also competing, on this occasion in the affiliated Rhayadar 5 Mile
Race, was Frankie Vaughan of Corris, the Meirionnydd Running Club athlete
finishing in a time of 35.12mins despite missing the start of the race through
an excessive warm-up.
Heading to the hills recently has been Steve Gilliland of
Tywyn. His latest foray saw him heading to Bethesda to take part in the Moel
Wnion Fell Race. In a race which covered 1,600 feet of climbing within it's 4
mile distance, a finishing time of 39.01mins ensured a 6th place finish out of
the 89 competitors for the Bro Dysynni athlete as well as
claiming overall victory within the 'Male Over-40' age category.
