Four local
athletes were amongst the 254 finishers at the recent Moel Eilio Fell Race held
in Llanberis. The 8 mile race, which included 3,000 feet of climbing, had added
significance this year as it was a counter in both the British Fell
Running Championships and the Welsh Championships. As such, the cream of
British fell running gathered in Llanberis to take on the challenge.
Leading
the competitors home was Nick Swinburn (Northumberland FR) who completed the
course in an outstanding time of 59.01mins whilst the first of the local
finishers was Steve Gilliland of Tywyn, a time of 1hr 11.23mins ensuring an
overall 60th place finish for the Bro Dysynni athlete.
A further three
local athletes headed to the Wrexham area to take part in the National Trust
Erddig Multi-Terrain 5 Mile Race. On this occasion the local contingent were
led home by Dewi Roberts of Blaenau Ffestiniog, as the Bro Dysynni athlete came
home in 30.00mins to claim an overall 8th place finish out of the 105
competitors in action. Next home was Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd, the first of
two Bro Dysynni age category victors, as a time of 43.52mins earnt success in
the Female Over-65 section whilst Sheila Symonds of Dolgellau followed in a
time of 1hr 07.35mins, an excellent time which claimed victory in the Female
Over-75 category.
Following on
from her age category success at Erddig, Sheila headed up the North Wales coast
to take part in the Rhyl 5k Road Race, an event which also affiliated the
