The
Rhug Estate in Corwen recently played host to the Rhug Organic North Wales
Cross Country Championships (supported by Grand Prix Express) with the event
attracting the interest of half a dozen locally affiliated athletes.
In the Senior Male event, Dolgellau's Tom Roberts continued
his recent excellent run of form as a time of 41.30mins ensured an
impressive 9th placed finish for the Meirionnydd Running Club athlete. He was
followed home by team-mates Ifan Richards of Brithdir, 15th overall in a
time of 42.19mins and Kevin Jones of Dolgellau, 16th overall in 42.29mins.
There was another excellent showing from Alex Lanz of
Dolgellau in the Under-17 Male category as a time of 21.46mins ensured a
pleasing 3rd placed finish for the Meirionnydd runner. At the other end of the
age scale, Barrie Jackson of Bala flew the flag for the Meirionnydd
team, with a time of 36.13mins claiming a 4th placed finish in the Over-70
Male Masters section.
In the Senior Ladies section, Andrea Vaughan of
Ganllwyd was the sole Meirionnydd competitor in the event, her finishing
time of 27.02mins claiming an overall 18th placed finish, whilst Brenda
Jones of Llanelltyd was the sole Bro Dysynni athlete in action at the event,
collecting the title of North Wales Champion in the Female Over-65 category as
she crossed the finishing line in a time of 32.37mins.
