Five
locally affiliated athletes headed due south recently to form part of the field
of over 250 competitors at the Aberystwyth 10k Road Race.
In a race
won comfortably by Burundian athlete, Jean Ndayisenga (Birchfield Harriers) in
a time of 30.07mins, the first of the local contingent to finish was Tom Jones
of Aberdyfi, the Bro Dysynni athlete claiming a top-40 finish in an excellent
time of 40.23mins. Frankie Vaughan of Ganllwyd, the only Meirionnydd Running
Club competitor on the day, turned in a polished performance to finish in
43.11mins, whilst Malcolm Taylor led home a trio of Bro Dysynni athletes to
finish the event, as the Criccieth based athlete finished in 48.06mins, to be
followed by team-mates, Rhian Jones of Aberdyfi and Marj Griffiths of
Aberystwyth who followed in respective times of 54.39mins and 62.12mins.
There are
two local events being held over the festive period, aimed both at the serious
and not-so-serious competitor. Firstly, Boxing Day will see
the Christmas running of the Tyn-Y-Groes Hill Run. The 2.7 mile event,
which will include 700 feet of climbing is due off at
12.00 Noon from the Tyn-Y-Groes Hotel in Ganllwyd, near Dolgellau. The
