Bro Dysynni
A.C. were well represented at the recent Newtown 10k riverbank race as a dozen
local athletes headed into Powys to compete.
The first
of the dozen to cross the finishing line was Dewi Roberts of Blaenau Ffestiniog
in a time of 39.53mins. He was followed by Jos Jones of Tywyn in 40.25mins with
Nigel Evans of Dolgellau, continuing his return to full fitness by completing
the challenge in 41.53mins. Next home was Tywyn veteran, Richard Griffiths, in
44.56mins with Marit Evans of Dolgellau and Kate Williams of Aberdyfi following
in respective times of 55.13mins and 55.47mins. Guesting for Bro Dysynni was
Gillian Merriman of Canada, taking a break from her teaching duties at Ysgol
Gynradd Tywyn to complete the tough challenge in 56.56mins whilst Marj
Griffiths claimed a tremendous victory in the female over-60 category,
finishing with her usual panache in 58.49mins. Also finishing with his usual
beam was Andy Unwin of Harlech whose first 10k race for over 2 years proved to
be an arduous affair as he finished in 63.40mins. There was an outstanding
performance from Eirlys Griffiths of Tywyn, claiming age group category success
in the female over-50 class in 72.17mins whilst training partner, Helen
Williams of Aberdyfi followed in 76.17mins. Completing an excellent turnout on
the day was Sheila Symonds of Dolgellau who claimed Dysynni's 3rd age group
category success, on this occasion in the female over-70 class, in a time of
76.49mins.
Five local
athletes were also in action at the Moel Eilio fell race held in Llanberis. In
the 8 mile event which included 3000feet of climbing, Steve Gilliland of Tywyn
led home the local contingent as he claimed an overall 9th place finish as well
as 2nd finisher in the male over-40 category in 1hr 11.16mins. He was followed
by Owen Rees of Dysynni, 23rd overall in 1hr 18.52mins, with Tony Hodgson of
Llanelltyd being the first Meirionnydd Running Club finisher, crossing the
finishing line in 1hr 35.14mins. He was followed by Nich Bradley of Dolgellau in
1hr 40.11mins whilst the local turnout was completed by Juliet Edwards of
Dolgellau, claiming 3rd place in the female over-40 category in a time of 1hr
46.18mins.
This coming
Saturday, Dolgellau will welcome fell runners from across the country for the annual
running of the Cader Idris Fell Race. Entries will be taken on the day for the
event as well as the many accompaning junior races. Full details of the days
