News Report 14th January 2007
A total of
six local athletes formed part of the field of 202
competitors for last Saturday's Twin Piers 10k road race, with the
race starting in Llandudno and finishing up the coast in Colwyn Bay.
The
competitors were met with strong side-winds coming in off the sea all along the
coastal race. However, these conditions didn't adversely affect finishing
times, as can be shown by the winning time of 34.50mins achieved by local
youngster Harry Jones (Colwyn Bay A.C.). The local contingent also did themselves
proud with 4 of the 6 achieving age category victories. The first of these was
achieved by Tony Hodgson of Llanelltyd, as the Meirionnydd Running Club member
gained victory in the male over-55 category in a time of 42.09mins. Barrie
Jackson of Bala also achieved age category success, this time in the male
over-65 section, the Bro Dysynni runner finishing well in 46.54mins. Returning
after a lengthy racing absence was Malcolm Taylor of Criccieth who eased his
way back into competitive action with a time of 49.37mins which was just enough
to pip Rob Thomas of Llanelltyd who finished in 50.03mins. The third age
category victory was achieved by Marj Griffiths in the female over-60 category
with a finishing time of 1hr 00.20mins whilst Sheila Symonds of Dolgellau
continues to show amazing form as she claimed victory in the female over-70
section in an outstanding time of 1hr 13.58mins
