A 'Magnificent Seven' team of athletes from Bro Dysynni
A.C. were in action last weekend as they headed into Powys to take part in
the Newtown BBQ 5k Friday evening race. Leading home the Dysynni contingent, in his first
competitive outing of 2009 was Nigel Evans, the Dolgellau-based athlete
starting his annual comeback by covering the distance in a time of
23.34mins. Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd was the next Dysynni finisher, claiming
Female Over-65 category victory in a time of 26.07mins. Three Dysynni
stalwarts followed, as Malcolm Taylor of Criccieth crossed the finishing line
in a time of 26.23mins, Huw Harrison of Fairbourne followed, delighted with
his time of 26.55mins and Andy Unwin of Harlech completed the trio, beaming
as he finished in a time of 29.29mins. Next home was the ever-green Marj
Griffiths of Aberystwyth, home in a time of 30.37mins, whilst Sheila Symonds
of Dolgellau produced another determinedly dogged display as she claimed
victory in the Female Over-75 category in an outstanding time of 37.49mins. A team of 5 locally affiliated athletes were also in
action in Denbighshire recently, their chosen event being the 'Fairy Freckled
Cow Trail Race', an 11k event around Llyn Alwen and Mynydd Hiraethog. Leading
home the 5 on this occasion was Adam Preston of Dolgellau, the Meirionnydd
Running Club athlete home in a time of 47.41mins. Team-mate, Frankie Vaughan
of Ganllwyd, followed in 52.15mins whilst Barrie Jackson was the sole Bro
Dysynni competitor, finishing in a time of 56.21mins. Meirionnydd Running
Club colleagues, Sioned Jones of Brithdir and Janet Preston of Dolgellau,
completed the local turn-out, home in respective times of 66.25mins &
67.37mins. Finally, Dewi Roberts of Blaenau Ffestiniog recently
claimed a fine 6th placed finish at the Felinheli 10k Road Race, the Dysynni
athlete finishing the event in a time of 36.52mins, which also claimed
age category victory in the Male Over-40 section. |
