A total of six locally affiliated athletes formed part of a field of just under 400 competitors who gathered at Plascrug Avenue last Sunday afternoon for the 14th running of the Cambrian News sponsored Aberystwyth Charity 10k Road Race. With overall victory being claimed by Brecon A.C. athlete, Austin Davies, in a time of 33.08mins, the locally affiliated contingent were led home by David Elliott of Machynlleth, the Meirionnydd Running Club athlete home in an excellent time of 43.31mins. A total of five athletes affiliated to Bro Dysynni A.C. then followed, the five being led home by Richard Griffiths, the Tywyn based athlete crossing the finish line in a time of 48.28mins. The redoubtable Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd then followed, claiming victory within the Female Over-70 category in an outstanding time of 55.06mins, just over a minute clear of John Tee, the Blaenau Ffestiniog based athlete home in 56.23mins. Recently elected Bro Dysynni Chairman, Hugh Harrison of Fairbourne, then followed, delighted with a finishing time of 57.53mins with Marj Grffiths completing the strong Dysynni turnout, the Aberystwyth based athlete victorious within the Female Over-65 category in a commendable time of 65.45mins.
For Dysynni athlete Hugh Harrison, it was his second 10k outing in quick succession as, leading up the Aberystwyth event, the Dysynni Chairman competed in sunnier climbs in an attempt to improve his fitness levels. On that occasion, the venue was the Canary Island of Lanzarote, the Fairbourne athlete doubly-delighted to complete the Clasica de Lanzarote 10k Road Race in a time of 64.24mins.
