Bro Dysynni A.C. News 4th September 2006

Both Bro Dysynni A.C. and Meirionnydd Running Club were well represented at last Sundays 14th Peak Caernarfon 10k Road Race which also incorporated the North Wales 10k Road Running Championships. Quantity was matched by quality as, of the 13 local runners competing, 6 returned home as North Wales Championship Age Group Category Winners.

In a race won by Vale Royal A.C. athlete, Gareth Williams, in a time of 35.25mins, the first of the locally based athletes home was Steve Gilliland of Tywyn whose time of 35.56mins ensured an overall 3rd place finish as well as an age group category victory in the male over-45 section. Another Tywyn based athlete followed, as Michael Palmer turned in an impressive performance to cross the line in 43.00mins. A mere 17 seconds behind was Tony Hodgson of Llanelltyd whose time ensured the second of the six age group category successes, this time in the male over-55 age group. Andrea Goode of Arthog also tasted age group category success, in the female over-35 group, in a time of 44.54mins, ahead of a resurgent Frankie Vaughan of Ganllwyd who followed home in 48.53mins.

There was an excellent personal battle between Barrie Jackson of Bala and Graeme Stringer of Arthog who came home in respective times of 50.13mins and 50.32mins with the Penllyn based athlete having the added satisfaction of victory in the male veteran over-65 category. Next to follow was Malcolm Taylor of Criccieth in 51.28mins with fellow Dwyfor based athlete, Sheila Jones of Pwllheli, following in 51.57mins which in the process claimed victory in the female over-45 group. The final local age category victor on the day was Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd in a time of 52.29mins which claimed success in the female over-65 class. The remaining trio of locally based athletes to finish were all Dolgellau based as Margaret Roberts, Marit Evans and Sheila Symonds came home in respective times of 57.25mins, 61.12mins and 76.11mins.

There were also impressive performances from the quartet of locally based athletes who dominated proceedings at the recent Ras Y Cnicht Fell Race in Croesor. Overall victory in the male and female section of the 4.5 mile race which included 1850 feet of climbing went to Dafydd Roberts in 38.13mins and Sian Roberts in 46.24mins whilst the Meirionnydd Running Club duo of William and Adam Haynes claimed 5th and 6th placed finishes out of a field of 39 competitors in times of 43.42mins and 43.47mins.
