The ever popular Ras Y Cnicht Fell Race held in
Croesor attracted a high quality field recently, a field which also
included a quartet of athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd Running Club.
With a mere 27 seconds seperating the 1st three
finishers, Ifan Richards of Brithdir had to settle for a creditable 3rd
place on the occasion, as he crossed the line in a time of 37.15mins. His
Meirionnydd team-mate, Tom Roberts of Dolgellau, finished in an overall
12th position, his time of 43.54mins also claiming runners up spot in the
Under-23's section of the event. Also claiming a runners up spot in
her age category was fellow Dolgellau athlete, Juliet Edwards, claiming
2nd place in the Female Over-40 category in a time of 58.42mins.
Completing the local quartet in action was Kevin Evans of Brithdir, home
in a creditable time of 59.25mins.
A further trio of local athletes headed to Shropshire
recently, their chosen event being the Ellesmere 10k Road Race and all
three returned home having being 'placed' within their various age
categories. Bro Dysynni athlete, Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd, led home the
Female Over-65 competitors in a time of 54.51mins, with the Meirionnydd
R. C. duo of Malcolm Taylor of Criccieth & Barrie Jackson of Bala
claiming respective 3rd place in the Male Over-65 section and victory in
the Male Over-70 category as they came home in times of 55.07mins &
The latter of the two was also in action at
Rhydycroesau recently as the Shropshire village played host to the Craig
Y Rhiw Fell Race. On this occasion the Bala based athlete completed the
event in a time of 51.09mins, claiming runners up spot in the Male
Over-70 category in the process.
